Five for Friday

It's Friday, and you know what that means!  :)  Time to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for the Five for Friday!!

For those of you that read my blog, you know that I am in Northern Michigan right now visiting my parents. Yesterday I finally crossed another item off my bucket list!  Kayaking Ocqueoc (Ah-key-ock) Lake & River!!  It was BEAUTIFUL!!!!  So quiet, and it seemed like every time I turned around a little muskrat was swimming along side of me! :)  Also, since it was Michigan and not North Carolina I didn't need to worry about cotton mouths. :)

Our son has also been enjoying Northern Michigan as well...

He went kayaking for the first time!  It looks like it worked pretty well, but you can't see that my hubby has MY kayak tied to his, and he is doing all of the paddling...we are just riding. :)  He is out and about outside playing when he is not receiving an abundance of snuggles from Grammy and Grampy!!!!!!!

We have been doing our fair share of rock collecting!  We have had something in mind to make for over a year now, and we have been hard at work collecting what we need....so look for a Monday Made It! in the near future!!! :)

We had two rainy days, so I was able to put the finishing touches on my customary measurement conversion cards.  It is a set of 24 task cards which are ALL word problems (GREAT for use for FUN test prep activities).

Happy Wednesday everyone!!  I am sooooo sad that July already seems to be flying by!!!!  I guess that is what happens on summer vacation!!!

Today, I am all in for a TRIPLE linky!!!  As you know I am on vacation right now in Michigan, so I have been blog stalking here and there, and found a new linky to link up with today.

With just starting to teach middle school, my goals are pretty short and sweet. :)  I just really want to have a successful first year, have my students ENJOY what they are learning and HOW they are learning it, and also to try new things and stay ORGANIZED!!!!!

Personally, I have only just started blogging and TPT-ing so I would love to be consistent with that as well, sharing ideas and things that I am doing in my classroom. :)  I also need to get back on the workout train!!  YIKES.  Especially after being home with family for a month...a month of home cooking does that to a person. :)

Next, I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune for their Worksheet Wednesday.  

This is a FREE worksheet I plan to use with my 6th graders on the first day of school.  I want to be able to relate to them, so I would love to get to know them better, so this little questionnaire should do the trick! :)  PLUS--it's free!! :)  Just click below to get it!

I'm still at my parents house in Northern Michigan, so it's another vacation picture.  We wanted to stay by the fire longer, but the mosquitoes were HORRIBLE!!!!

The first item is my Fractions of a Set Task cards:

It contains 24 fractions of a set task cards which are word problems (most of them multi-step), a recording sheet and answer key.  It's a great resource for letting your students practice how to find fractions of a set in real world scenarios.

The second item is:

This a GREAT resource to reinforce with students how to plot, read, and interpret fractions on a line plot! In my experience this is a tough concept for students to grasp.

It's a 7 page printable resource can be used as guided or individual practice, as a guided math center game, homework, etc.! The possibilities are endless!
There are 2 independent practice pages which rely on students to plot fractions on a line plot, add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers, multiply a fraction by a whole number, find equivalent fractions, and simplify fractions.1 line plot recording sheet (you can print multiple times on card stock in color, then put it in a clear plastic sleeve to be used with dry erase markers over and over again).12 task cards for students to play “The Early Bird Gets the Worm!”1 worksheet that goes along with the task cards.
This game can EASILY be played more than once with a group since each time the task cards will be dispersed differently.

Monday Meet Me!

It's Monday again!  Time for the Monday Meet Me with The Teaching Tribune! :)

Also, if you haven't noticed, the blog got a new look since the last meet up thanks to Rebekah  at Le Charmed Boutique! :)  She did an incredible job, and was great to work with, so if you're looking for a new look check out her Etsy shop!! :)

I love these Monday Meet Ups!!! It's so fun to meet other teacher/blogger friends! I have already followed so many new blogs!  I LOVE IT!

So, my favorite summer thing to do was ALWAYS to play outside on the beach. My sister and our neighbors were quite skilled in the art of "Fern Fort" making---look out Bear Gryls! :)  They were quite impressive I must say.  I would love to go back to those days of just innocent fun!!!!

As far as changing my name I had always had an obsession with the name Elizabeth when I was little!  I definitely wanted to change my name to that! :)

The worst thing that happens in my classroom is when the kids can sometimes just be overall chatty/excitable and I feel as though I have lost classroom management control.  Luckily (knock on wood) that has been the extent of it.


I think that hanging out with Marshall and Lily from How I Met Your Mother would be a TON of fun! :)

I have one sister, Kelly.  She and her husband live about 3.5 hours from us in VA!

I am not a fancy breakfast person at all, during the school year I pretty much stick with greek yogurt or a smoothie.  However, if I am at a restaurant, it is about a guarantee that I would get a Belgian waffle with blueberries and whipped cream. :)

I can't wait to meet more teacher bloggers this week!

A view from my parents deck in Michigan on Lake Huron.  Sooo...needless to say, if I am not an active blogger for the next two weeks, this is why. :)  I do not see my parents nearly enough now that I moved to NC, and it's a 19 hour drive (more so now that we have a little one).  It is so nice to be home and be spending time with my family--and with a view like this, it makes me just want to chill and relax!!  Time to recharge!

July Currently

WOW!!!!  I can't believe it is already July!  JULY!!!!  And the fourth is just around the corner, which then means that back to school stuff will already be filling the shelves (sigh).  Sooooooo, here is my July Currently that I am linking up with Farley at Oh Boy 4th Grade!

If you have been reading my blog you know that we are SOOOOO excited be home since last summer we couldn't come because Baby B was in the NICU.  I am also SUPER excited because due to this thing called LIFE (medical reasons), my parents haven't seen Baby B since this:
