FIVE for Friday---Linky Party

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

It has been a WHIRLWIND week!!!  WOW!  Today I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for the FIVE FOR FRIDAY Linky:

Because of ALL of our snow days this year, school was out on the 6th of June for the kids, but we have had TEN workdays after that (part of which made up for our snow days).  I had NO time left to take them off (because of all the time I took when our son was born early), so I was DREADING having to work all ten thinking I would be BORED OUT OF MY MIND for T-E-N days after school got out!!!  However, I have been so busy it's RIDICULOUS!  I have been moving things from my elementary classroom to my middle school classroom, decluttering, organizing, and trying to not look like a hoarder every trip I take to the middle school. :)

I have already started on my boards (my FAVORITE thing!):

Window Smudgies

 Our son has finally discovered the windows in our house (because he can see his own reflection mostly---he is such a ham), so we will now have cute little baby window smudgies all over the house. :)

In TWO WEEKS from Monday I will be back here---HOME!!!

We didn't get to go home to Michigan last summer because of everything with our son, so we are SUPER excited to go this year--especially since we get to bring him with us to Michigan for the first time!!!!!  So between seeing family & friends and spending time outside we cannot wait!!!!

Throwback Thursday Linky *Teacher Style*

Happy Throwback Thursday!!! 

Again, today I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune for a Throwback Thursday!  

So, today for #TBT we are to post a picture of ourselves in the grade that we are teaching and tell about how and when we knew we wanted to be a teacher.

Soooooo...unfortunately I do not have a picture of me in 6th grade right now (but I will get one this summer when I go home to Michigan--I can't wait to see that gem again), but I have the picture of me when I was in fourth grade, which is the grade that I have taught for the past 3 years:

I ALWAYS knew that I wanted to be a teacher---ALWAYS.  I would play school EVERY summer with my sister (which is probably why she is NOT a teacher...haa haa).  I had some AH-MAY-ZING teachers when I was growing up, so I had some excellent role models to aspire to be like!  I was even lucky enough to do my student teaching with two of those teachers.  Ironically, I student taught in fourth grade (the grade I teach now) and 7th grade math/science (which is where I WILL be going--only 6th grade).  

I also always thought that I would be an elementary teacher, but as I have taught this level for 10 years now, I am ready to spread my wings, take a risk, and try something I knew I also wanted to do at some point.  I'm lucky that the middle school that I am going to is a feeder school to the elementary school that I taught in.  So, seeing my class list for next year was exciting because I have a LOT of my sweet students from the year before BACK!!!  So, we will all be experiencing middle school for the first time.

Worksheet Wednesday: Fractions on a line plot FREEBIE

Today I am offering a FREE math sheet "The Early Bird Catches the Worm:  Fractions on a Line Plot"!

Fractions on a line plot was a fourth grade standard this year that my class had a REALLY hard time with, and it took us a LOT of practice to understand it!  This worksheet is ONE of my set that I have on TPT (I plan to only have it free today, because I can't include the cover pages with the credits if it is only one page...but here they are to be fair:

It worked GREAT this year, and this was something that the more hands on it was the better!  The FREE worksheet alone is good practice for students as guided or independent practice.  If you would like the complete package it is also available on TPT (it includes another worksheet for practice and a line plot task card game).  Click on the credits above to link to the ENTIRE file. :)

The Big MOVE is Underway!!!!!

Well,  the move has officially begun!  I moved my FIRST (of many--remember my teacher-hoarder post) load of things from my elementary school to my new middle school classroom!!!  My new team is FABULOUS and met me at the door ready to help me carry in boxes.  I still kindly reminded them that there is about 5-6 more trips just like that one!

 My new classroom has a LOT of natural light which I LOVE because in my classroom I rarely have the lights on!  Is anyone else like that?

I love having a "blank slate" to decorate, and since I still have 6 work days left (thank you Eastern North Carolina SNOW days!)--it's going to start ASAP!  My room is smaller than my classroom I just left, but still roomy:

I love the board space, too!  I don't think I'll need two boards, but it makes a nice makeshift bulletin board!  Also-I found out today that I will be teaching on a two person team teaching math AND science!!!!!  :). So look for a lot of good STEM resources on my TPT page!!!! :)

TWO for TUESDAY Linky (SALE!)

How much fun was yesterday linking up and meeting everyone???  Again today I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune for their Summer Bloggin' Series.

Here are the two products that I chose:

BOTH of these units I used this year and they worked GREAT, and they are two of my best sellers. Best part is they are only $4.00 each today!!!:)  Taffy of Torpedo Junction is maybe not the most COMMON book, but it is a great historical fiction adventure novel!  It aligns great with NC history, so it was a great book for me to use, and to use across the curriculum!  It's on the Battle of the Books list for NC this next year, too!

Poppy was another book that I did for the first time this year, and I LOVED that book as well (it might be one of my new top 5 teaching books).  This also worked well with our curriculum and tied in habitats and animals wonderfully (it's a great book to use with owl pellets!!)!

Both units are rigorous and fun!  They kept my class engaged and they worked well independently or in a group setting with each one. On a side note, today I also added a FREEBIE to my TPT site!  I mean, even though things are 50% off--who doesn't love a FREEBIE?

I used this Character Comparison poster to have my students compare two characters from DIFFERENT stories that we ready this year.  They either compared them using a similar character trait OR a similar situation.  The posters made a great hallway display, PLUS they engaged the students in higher order thinking skills!
